Getting to Évora

If you are driving in Portugal note that there are several highways with automatic-only toll systems: A4, A17, A22, A23, A24, A25, A28, A29, A41, A42. The easiest way to pay for these tolls is renting an automatic payment device (Via Verde) at your rent-a-car desk.

This information is intended to simplify the planning of your trip but does not dispense with consulting the websites of public transport companies to confirm schedules and ticket prices at the conference date.

From Lisbon (West)
From Lisbon Airport (LIS) there are car rentals, taxis, buses and metro with connection to the city centre. For the metro and bus, you need to buy the 7 Colinas/Viva Viagem electronic card which allows you to load your trips. To get to Oriente Railway Station you can use the metro (red line, third station Oriente) or buses 208/705/750. For the Sete Rios Bus Terminal you can use the bus 731 or the metro (red line to S. Sebastião, then blue line, second station Jardim Zoológico).

By bus

Rede de Expressos: there are 20 buses between 07:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., with departures from Sete Rios Bus Terminal at intervals of 1 hour or less, except between the last two buses leaving at 8:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.  (ca. 1h30 travel, approximate cost 12 €).

By train

Comboios de Portugal: departures from Oriente Railway  Station at 07:02 a.m., 09:02 a.m., 05:02 p.m. and 07h02 p.m. (ca. 1h30 travel, approximate cost 12-16 €).

By car

Via Ponte Vasco da Gama A12-A2-A6 highways (estimate: 130 km, 1h40, ca. 9 € toll).

From Faro (South)
From Faro Airport (FAO) there are taxis and buses (line 14 and line 16) to the centre of Faro where the Bus Terminal and the Train Station are located.

By bus

Rede de Expressos: departures at 8:15 a.m., 11:15 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. (ca. 4h15 travel, approximate cost 16 €).

By train

Comboios de Portugal: departures at 07:00 a.m., 09:48 a.m., 15:05 p.m. and 17:48 p.m. (ca. 3h30 travel, approximate cost 25€).

By car

Via A22-A2-A6 highways (estimate: 225 km, 3h00, ca. 24€ toll). Note: A22 is an automatic-only toll system highway.

From Porto (North)
From Porto Airport (OPO) there are car rentals, taxis, several bus companies and metro with connection to the city centre. Metro (line E, colour violet), with departures every 20-30 minutes, will take you to Campanhã Rail Station in 30 minutes. Note: you need to buy the electronic card Cartão Andante and load your metro trip. Transdev buses will take you directly to Atlântico Garage, the main bus station in Porto, but several other bus companies operate between the airport and the city centre.

By bus

Rede de Expressos: there are 15 buses with departures from 12:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (ca. 6h travel with change in Lisbon, approximate cost 23 €).

By train

Comboios de Portugal: departures at 12:30 a.m. (two changes, ca. 7h10 travel), 05:47 a.m., 01:47 p.m. and 03:47 p.m. (one change, ca. 4h45 travel; approximate cost 25-62 €).

By car

Via A1-A6 highways (estimate: 504 km, 6h00, ca. 29 € toll).

From Madrid (East)
From Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD)  there are car rentals, taxis, several bus companies and metro (line 8) with connection to the city centre. The train Renfe Cercanias takes you to Chamartin Train Station in about 10 minutes from T4.

By train

Renfe: departures from Madrid – Chamartin at 09:50 p.m. with arrival to Lisbon – Sta. Apolónia at 07:30 a.m. (approximate cost 60 €).

Comboios de Portugal: departures from Lisbon – Sta. Apolónia at 06:20 a.m., 08h20 a.m., 04:30 p.m. and 06:20 p.m. to Évora (ca. 2h15 travel; approximate cost 12-17 €).

By car

Via A-5 Spain and A6 Portugal highways (estimate: 516 km, 5h30, ca. 6 € toll).

The Organizing Committee agreed on special conditions for the World Owl Conference 2017 with some hotels in the city. Rooms available in these conditions are limited and will be assigned on a first-come first-served basis. We advise you to book your hotel as soon as possible. Room prices are per night (note: breakfast conditions differ between hotels).
